General Information Please be informed that Ukraine introduced a visa - free regime for citizens of the countries of European Union, U.S.A., Canada, Japan, Switzerland, Norway, San Marino, Monaco, Iceland, Vatican, Andorra, Liechtenstein and Republic of Korea, who may stay in Ukraine without visas up to 90 days.
Attention: This regulation is not extended to the immigrant visas, student visas with the purpose to study in Ukraine and for those U.S. citizens, who enter Ukraine with the purpose to work at the U.S. diplomatic/consular missions in Ukraine and to the cases when the U.S. citizens stay in Ukraine more than 90 days within the period of six months.
A passport valid for six months beyond the planned date of travel is required. No visas are required for citizens of the countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States (except Turkmenistan). At present, the Ukrainian legislation provides both visa and visa-free entry procedure for aliens (foreign citizens and non-citizens). The rules of aliens entry to/exit from Ukraine are regulated by Ukrainian Law On Legal Status of Aliens, of February 4, 1994 and are subject to the rules of aliens entry to Ukraine, their exit from Ukraine and transit through its territory (under the Decree by Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers of December 29, 1995). According to the set rules, an alien has the right for entry to/exit from Ukraine, for temporary stay in Ukraine and for making the necessary preparations to obtain a permit for permanent residence in Ukraine. Aliens shall enter/exit Ukraine through the crossing points on the State frontier, provided they have a national passport and a visa, if otherwise is not specified by the Ukrainian legislation. All categories of visas are issued by Ukraine's diplomatic missions and consular departments abroad. In Ukraine, the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine issues diplomatic visas to diplomats for the term of their accreditation. Service visas are issued to officers of foreign affairs departments from foreign States who have a service passport, to foreign mass media staff as well as to the members of their families for the period of service card validity. In case of loss of national passports by aliens on the territory of Ukraine, the passport owner should inform their hosting organization and an internal affairs agency about this incident. The latter, upon the alien's request, issues a substitution document. On obtaining national passports by aliens at the diplomatic mission or consular department of their country on the basis of the alien's application and a petition by their hosting organization, the internal affairs agency provides for issuing an exit visa or registration of the alien's national passport. Non-residents who have permanent residence in Ukraine, go on foreign trips with a non-resident identification document allowing for foreign trips and with an exit visa. No invitation letters are necessary for citizens of the US, Canada, Japan, Switzerland, and Turkey, or citizens of the countries of the European Union for obtaining official, business, private, cultural or sports visas. Please make sure that your current medical insurance has coverage in Ukraine. Important: Applicants holding passports of countries not mentioned above or non-citizens (stateless persons) must allow at least 15 business days for their visa applications to be processed and must additionally submit the following documents: Proof of re-admissibility to the USA (a copy of valid US Resident Alien Card, US Temporary Resident Card, employment authorization etc). Original letter of invitation (no fax or e-mail copies) made through a Ukrainian "Visa and Registration Office" for all types of visas. IMPORTANT: the Consular District (the area assigned to a Consular Post for the exercise of consular functions - Article 1 of the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations and Optional Protocols, 04/24/1963) of the Consulate General of Ukraine in Chicago includes States of Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota, Wisconsin.
